Insights from our Executive Director
As New Zealanders, we find ourselves once again immersed in the whirlwind of political campaigning as our parties unveil their promises and visions for the future. It’s a pivotal moment where the choices we make at the ballot box will shape the path our nation takes in the coming years.
However, amid the election season, there’s a concerning trend for the basics of life – food, education, health and housing – at the forefront of political discourse. These essentials should be non-negotiable and accessible to all, irrespective of political affiliation or socio-economic status.
It’s disheartening to see these issues being used as bargaining chips in the political arena. Our vision for Aotearoa New Zealand should encompass equitable access to services, so every Kiwi has the opportunity to thrive.
Additionally, research and development (R&D) funding has become a recurring election issue. I believe it’s time to move beyond this cycle. New Zealand requires a robust, long-term strategy that transcends the ebb and flow of political change. Let’s set a visionary course and adapt as necessary, rather than starting afresh every electoral term.
